The shift to motorization such as electric vehicles for the purpose of preventing global warming, is being aggressively pursued in a variety of fields. Neodymium magnet materials are used in motors, which play an important role in electrification, and there is concern about the rising price of neodymium magnets.
In X-TALK Vol. 6, Mr. Saeki of Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. which manufactures and sells samarium-based magnet materials that do not use neodymium as the main raw material, and Mr. Kiyama of Alconix Corporation, a nonferrous metals trading company that also handles a wide range of rare earths, talk the issues and thoughts surrounding rare earths.
